Hiring is closed! Thanks to all who applied and all who showed support. If you applied, you’ll hear from me by email. Otherwise, here’s to the future of Battlerite and Battlecrank!
Up until now, Battlecrank has been a one-man project (which has only been possible because of all you guys who support the site). And while it’s been a blast so far, it’s clear that I can only do so much on my own.
So it’s time to expand. Battlecrank is now looking to take on 2–3 writers who can help enhance the site’s coverage of Battlerite-related stories and topics. More information below if you’re interested. Do you have writing experience? If so, please keep reading.
Why Write for Battlecrank?
Ever since the site launched in March 2016, Battlecrank’s readership has grown month-over-month, breaking 100,000 pageviews in the month of October alone. And once Battlerite goes F2P, I expect that number will explode to even higher heights.
Joining Battlecrank means your writing will be exposed to thousands of unique readers every day — and you will be paid for your work. I don’t believe in commissioning work for free (only when it’s freely volunteered), so you will be paid for every article you write on behalf of this site. Note that we’re talking “beer money” rates and not “professional magazine” rates.
You’ll also get an author blurb on every post. This is one way to make your name known without having to be a top-tier player, a big-name streamer, or a tournament organizer.
All positions have the following general requirements:
- At least 18 years old.
- At least one article per week.
- Excellent command of English.
- Past experience with writing is ideal.
- Past experience with WordPress is ideal.
- Must accept payments in USD through PayPal.
Position: News Writer (2 spots)
Looking for writers who are timely, thorough, and willing to build connections within the Battlerite community to deliver top-notch stories. Every news article must be at least 250 words.
- Battlerite news.
- Tournament announcements and recaps.
- Player and team interviews.
- Community highlights.
- Rumor roundups.
A high MMR is NOT required for this role. Ideally, one reporter will cover esports while the other will cover general happenings, but nothing is set in stone and we can adapt as needed.
Position: Column Writer (1 spot)
Looking for an experienced player who isn’t afraid to share their knowledge or opinions to spark thoughtful discussions on all kinds of Battlerite topics, including game design, strategy, and useful tips and skills. Every article must be at least 1,000 words.
- Tips and tricks.
- Gameplay guides.
- Theorycrafting for champions/comps.
- Replay analyses.
- Opinion pieces.
A relatively high MMR is required for this role and you must be an active player for the duration of the position. Please do not apply if you are under 3,500 MMR.
Since guest contributions are volunteered, they receive no monetary compensation. However, you do get to have your writing exposed to thousands of readers. You also get an author byline and an author blurb with up to three outgoing links, such as to your social media accounts.
Interested? Check out our guest post guidelines for more information.
How to Apply
Use this contact form and describe why you think you’d be a good fit. Be sure to identify your Battlerite ID and which position you are applying for. Please include links to at least two writing samples (upload to Google Docs if needed). Applications without any writing samples will be ignored. Samples can be articles, forum posts, or Reddit posts that you’ve written — anything as long as they reflect your best potential.
Do not bother applying if you cannot commit to submitting at least once piece per week. Pay rates will be disclosed upon acceptance. Note that pay rates are humble right now, but will grow as the site grows.
If you have any questions, ask them in the comments below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can! If you know of any writers who might be interested, please let me know that as well.
